Prof. Richard Larson’s career has focused his operations research and systems expertise on a wide variety of problems, in both public and private sectors. He is author, co-author or editor of six books and author or co-author of over 175 scientific articles, primarily in the fields of urban service systems (esp. emergency response systems), disaster planning, pandemics, queueing, logistics, technology-enabled education, smart-energy houses and workforce planning. His first book, Urban Police Patrol Analysis (MIT Press, 1972) was awarded the Lanchester Prize of the Operations Research Society of America (ORSA). He is co-author, with Amedeo Odoni, of the widely used Urban Operations Research, Prentice Hall, 1981 (over 1,000 citations). Prof. Larson’s research on queues has not only resulted in new computational techniques (e.g., the Queue Inference Engine – an early example of data-driven research — and the Hypercube Queueing Model – 740 citations), but has also been covered extensively in national and international media.

Prof. Hind Lamharhar is a professor of Artificial Intelligence (Knowledge-Based Systems, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Natural Language Processing) and a senior data and NLP engineer. Since 2002, she has worked across both higher education and government, building a strong foundation that blends academic depth with hands-on engineering and strategic leadership in AI. In academia, She have been active in research labs since my PhD in 2009, and she have co-advised doctoral students since 2015. Her research focuses on end-to-end AI pipelines—covering data acquisition, pre-processing, modelling, and evaluation—applied to real-world challenges, especially in NLP, intelligent systems, and now large language models (LLMs) and Generative AI. She teaches AI and data science to graduate and engineering students at top Moroccan institutions such as INSEA, Mohammadia School of Engineering, and Mohamed V University. She created her own course materials and apply a mix of teaching methods—traditional, online, and hybrid—to ensure students develop practical, industry-relevant skills. Currently, she is actively working on LLMs and Generative AI for practical applications, including intelligent document understanding, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI-driven decision support. She lead and contribute to projects that explore how these technologies can be deployed in real-world contexts to solve complex problems.
